Now you might, as I intially did, already be thinking, “No, too busy, leggings are black and that’s the way it’s always been” but slow down there sister! Here’s an interesting concept for you to try on for size: they don’t have to be black!
I’ll let you sit on that one for a while….
Yep, it’s happening. You’re going to have to get on this bandwagon and here’s why:
Black leggings are boring
They’re really dull
I’ve fallen asleep
BRING ON THE PRINTS
I’m thinking of going all out, neons, leopard prints, aztecs, the possibilites are all there!
I’ve been eying up heeled loafers for ages. Admitedly, they sound ghastly. I’ve always associated loafers with Clarks, in a drab brown colour made out of plasticy feeling imitation leather. But how things have changed, since they were featured on the Prada Fall RTW 2010 catwalk they’ve seemed so much more stylish. Perfect for work with a high yet not over the top chunky heel they can be styled in so many ways.
You could try the Granny Chic look as they were worn on the Prada catwalk, with thick woolen tights and twin set, or you could update the look for Spring, try a midi skirt and a sheer blouse, or be brave with thigh high socks and a billowing shorter length dress.
My personal favourite pair has to be the Mui Mui Glitter Leather Loafer Pumps. They were on netaporter for £370 and bring some glitz to the occassion with a sparkly upper. Unfortunatey now they’re sold out and a couple of seasons old.
On the high street however is an excellent dupe. Miss Selfridge’s Blackberry Brogue heel. Chunky heel, gorgeous colour and even better price at just £50! You’d better be quick though as it’s an Oxford Street exclusive and sizes are disappearing fast!
I’ve recently discovered this site called Polyvore and created the look below. It’s inspired by the Dolce and Gabanna S/S 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection from Milan (you can see all the catwalk images from it on Vogue.co.uk) and also a shoot from the American Cosmo magazine featuring Cory Monteith (Finn) from Glee looking rather hot and cavorting with someone very pretty.
I really like the boots I’ve put in there. They’re by Emma Cook for Topshop and go with this look perfectly but are £175 so I’ll keep dreaming.
Boohoo also have alot more denim stuff similar to the D&G runway and are ridiculously cheap so I possibly may be investing in a piece or two…
Set to be the only way to wear your denim in 2010 is the Motorcycle jean. A new take on the skinny jean, these have panelling and added piping detail on the knees to give that “biker chic” look which has been around for a while. Already shown by Balmain in S/S 2009 and the favourite of celebrities including Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, Nikki Hilton, Katie Holmes and Cameron Diaz (all pictured) they are both flattering and edgy.
Dress them up with a biker jacket and some heavy boots like Nikki Hilton, or down like Katie Holmes with a simple jumper and flats. If the £868 price tage on the Balmain pair (and that’s reduced from £1,240, eek!) is a bit out of your budget, Miss Selfridge and Topshop have some more affordable pairs for £38 and £48.
